COLLECTING THE ENERGY OF A PLACE

With setting foot on the rooftop of EnergyKas in February this year, looking around at everyone involved, questions immediately started to emerge. What is happening here? What connects these people to this place? How does being on a rooftop change one’s way of thinking? What role does imagination play? What is the value of gathering? When does a space become a place? How to archive all practical and theoretical things, thoughts, meetings and experiments happening here? All these questions informed the first edition of the new Zine of EnergieKas: WATT?! For this first issue, all people tightly or loosely connected to EnergieKas were invited to share their thoughts.

EnergieKas is a hands-on non-profit space for transition makers on a 2000m2 rooftop in the old city center of The Hague (NL), featuring a 120m2 urban greenhouse. It offers space for imagination, experimentation and encounters at the intersection of art, climate and science. Through collaboration and shared experience, people come together to explore new ways of seeing, growing, making, building and living. EnergieKas is initiated by Erik de Jong and Iris Schutten.

WATT?! is sparked by Lara Metzenmacher and brought to life with EnergieKas and Collective Works. This first issue contains contributions by Diann van Faassen, Johanna Fuld, Jesse Greulich, Honey Jones-Hughes, Irene Jahn, Erik de Jong, Corine Keus, Jan Körbes, Joske Mesters, Lara Metzenmacher, Joeri Oudshoorn, Tom Rottger-Morgan & João Henrique Viegas, RotClub, Karolina Rupp, Iris Schutten, Tom Sebestik, Imani Taroenodikromo, Ruben Verkuijlen & Michael Tija, Ilse Versluijs, Eelco van der Waals, Femke Wijnandts & Peter Zuiderwijk.
